Further Conditions & Disclaimer House size selection, climate & conditioned basements In cold climates, the REM/Design Residential Energy Analysis accounted for 1,500 sq. ft. of conditioned space in the basement (for 3,000 sq. ft. homes) and 1,800 sq. ft. of conditioned space (for 1,800 sq. ft. homes). The cities reflecting a cold climate include Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, Toronto and Vancouver. For hot climate homes (Dallas, Phoenix, Tampa), a conditioned attic design has been assumed (where Icynene is used), enabling HVAC equipment to be stored in the attic. No basement has been assumed for these homes. The aforementioned is subject to vary as any and all conditions change.
